Or, any wood stain can be applied every few years to add a tint to the wood while bringing out its different tones. Sikkens Cetol 1 is an excellent choice for any outdoor project since it includes ultra violet inhibitors to prevent the sun from fading the wood. Paint will work but will need more maintenance, as any paint applied outdoors will eventually need to be scraped and refinished. Wood oils are not recommended for patio furniture as it is difficult to achieve a perfect finish without having airborn particles stick to the oil finish.
